How I Made an EXTRA $2000 a Month Taking Acting Workshops!
Getting Back into the Game
Sounds crazy but it’s true.
After a 16-year break from acting, I felt rusty—really rusty. My biggest challenge was finding English-speaking acting workshops in Munich. Spoiler: they didn’t really exist! Sure, I could have flown to LA or New York, but the travel costs alone were way out of reach. Then, I had an idea: what if I brought the top coaches to me? So, I started reaching out to my dream teachers in LA, New York, and London, inviting them to Munich. What started as a way to stay sharp and save money turned into something much more.
Free Training + Community? Yes, Please!
The bonus? I organized these workshops in a way that let me train for free. I’d cover the coach’s travel and fee with ticket sales, which meant no extra costs for me and training with the best coaches. On top of that, this approach introduced me to a network of actors in Munich who understood the German industry—something I was really lacking. Suddenly, I was building a community, learning from top talent, and connecting with other actors I wouldn’t have met otherwise.
Turning Workshops Into Real Income
And here’s where things got even better: I started earning extra cash from the workshops, usually $1,000 to $2,000 per month, depending on how many I ran. By planning them around my schedule, I could take the workshops when I wanted and price them to cover costs plus extra. So instead of it being an expense, it became a steady side income. It was like a small business that built my network and paid my bills.
Making Real Connections with Casting Directors
Then, I realized I could apply this same idea to build connections with casting directors, producers, and other decision-makers. When I invited them as workshop guests, I got to know them as a peer and not just another actor auditioning for them. This set up a unique dynamic where they saw me as someone offering them value. It even led to lasting friendships with some casting directors, who later reached out to me directly for roles!
Tailoring Workshops to My Needs
Here’s the thing with running your own workshops: you can design them exactly how you want. I started organizing special skills workshops, like when I hired a firearms expert to teach me handling techniques for a specific role. As a screenwriter, I’ve even brought in forensic experts to lead sessions for other writers. It’s completely flexible and lets you pursue your own unique needs as an actor, writer, or creator.
