How this Actor Changed the Power Dynamic for Himself in the Film Industry

I had an awesome chat with my friend Angus McGruther in an interview today. Angus is an Australian actor and voiceover artist living in Berlin, and he's also the director and I-founder of the Down Under Film Festival in Berlin.

Our conversation team the gamut from how he balances acting with running a film festival and how those roles actually complement each other and about how Angus came to find himself as co-director of the film festival in the first place. He, and his partner, Mala Ghedia, took over the festival during lockdown. Being a co-founder has given them booths lots of opportunities to build new, meaningful connections and feel more empowered as actors.

For Angus, this was a game-changer on many levels because it set him apart from other actors and raised his confidence in his value in the film industry. He shared how balancing acting with running a festival lets him engage with the industry in different ways that he wouldn’t have access to as an actor alone.

Plus, having something besides acting helps you connect with people on a professional level and build deeper relationships. He also talked about how it’s okay to have quiet periods in your acting career and let things come back naturally.

His experience is a great reminder that actors can do so much more than just act. Check out this interview yourself and maybe it will spark some ideas in that beautiful, bold head of yours.
