Acting on Instinct: Raw Childhood Confessions You Haven't Heard Before

If you've ever wondered when you'll be "ready" to take that leap into a new venture, whether it's acting, podcasting, or anything else, I've got some news for you—you probably never will be. I recently had the pleasure of being a guest on the Better Call Daddy podcast, and we dove deep into this very topic. Spoiler alert: Readiness is a myth.

As an actress, I can tell you that there's no perfect moment when you suddenly feel completely prepared to step into a role. You just do it. You get out there, you make mistakes, and you learn from them. It's the same with starting a podcast or any creative project. There's always going to be something you don't know—whether it's the technical side, the marketing, or just how to get your voice out there. But if you wait until everything is perfect, you'll never start.

I shared how I began podcasting and using YouTube at almost the same time. I had no clue about editing or the finer points of video production, but I learned by doing. My mantra? "Imperfect action is better than no action." Just start, even if it's messy. Over time, you'll refine your skills, gain confidence, and learn what works for you.

We also touched on how my film school days at NYU Tisch taught me a critical lesson: you're part of a bigger picture. Acting, like life, isn't just about you—it's about collaboration. Sometimes, all you need to do is stand there and let the camera do its work. The director, the editor, the crew—they all play their part in telling the story.

And let's talk about that "first-time feeling." My first real taste of acting was at summer camp when I was ten years old. Standing on stage, I felt this incredible connection with the audience. It was like we were one. That feeling of being in sync with others, of being part of something larger than yourself, is addictive. It's what keeps me going, even when the journey gets tough.

But here's the kicker: readiness isn't just about the creative stuff. It also applies to life. Whether it's balancing career and family or navigating the ups and downs of relationships, you'll never have all the answers. I’ve learned to embrace the uncertainty, to take risks, and to forgive—myself and others. Because at the end of the day, we're all just doing our best.

So, if you're waiting for the perfect time to chase your dream, stop waiting. Start now, with whatever you have. You'll figure it out along the way. And trust me, the journey, as messy as it may be, is worth it. Catch the full episode here.

Until next time, you stay your bold and beautiful self.
