The BEST Side Hustle for Actors

Acting can be a bit of a rollercoaster. Sometimes you’re in demand, and other times you’re waiting around for that next opportunity. After taking a 16-year break from acting to focus on my family, I knew jumping back in wouldn’t be easy. I felt disconnected and a little rusty, and I realized traditional classes wouldn’t cut it.

So, I did something different. I started organizing workshops—not just for myself, but for other actors who wanted to keep their skills sharp. It changed everything.

Workshops as the Key to My Comeback

When I came back to acting, I needed a way to reconnect with my craft. Instead of going the usual route of classes, I decided to create something more flexible and hands-on. I organized workshops in things like movement, accent training, Meisner technique, and Laban technique—all the areas I wanted to improve in.

But it didn’t stop there. These workshops gave me more than just skill-building. They provided a flexible income, kept me sharp during those “in-between” times, and helped me build a community of other actors. Plus, I was able to stay engaged with my craft, which kept my passion alive during slow periods.

What Organizing Workshops Can Do for You

You don’t need to wait around for the next job. Organizing workshops puts you back in the driver’s seat of your career. Here’s why it’s so worth it:

  • Extra income: It’s a great way to earn some cash while doing what you love.

  • Grow your skills: Choose topics that excite you and deepen your craft—acting techniques, voice work, or anything that lights you up.

  • Low risk, high reward: You’ll gain valuable experience and knowledge, and the financial risk is minimal.

  • Networking goldmine: By bringing in expert coaches, you’re not only learning from the best—you’re making valuable connections in the industry.

  • Build your community: Surround yourself with like-minded actors who share your passion.

  • Location freedom: It doesn’t matter if you’re in a big city or a small town. You can organize workshops from anywhere, even online.

Want to Try This? Here Are a Few Steps to Get Started

If organizing workshops sounds like something you want to explore, here’s how to get the ball rolling:

  1. Brainstorm areas where you want to improve or that you’re passionate about. Maybe it’s acting techniques like Meisner or movement—or even something outside of acting, like fitness or cooking!

  2. Think about who would benefit from your workshop. Is it other actors? Your local community? Or maybe you want to go global and host it online!

  3. Identify potential coaches or collaborators. Reach out to people whose expertise excites you, and see if they’d be interested in partnering with you for a workshop.

These steps will help you get started, and if you want to dive deeper into the process, keep an eye out for my upcoming course! I’ll guide you through each phase of organizing and running successful workshops that grow your skills and create new opportunities.

Workshops Are More Than Just Extra Income

Workshops aren’t just about making money—they’re about taking control of your career and staying engaged with your craft. It’s about building a network of like-minded professionals and creating something meaningful for yourself and others. I’d love to see more actors and creatives take this path and create new opportunities!
